Esteemed friend
I have been desirous to remove to the Ohio
for several years as I was altogether a stranger to that country
I have swished for information that I could confide in.
Since JOhn Witchel removed to this place, I have conversed
with him several times concerning the different parts thereof
go
he advised me to^within the vicinity of Kendal and said I
had better wrtie to thee and get thy judgment of the mat-
ter which would do as well for me as to take a journey
into that country to view - I at length concluded to do
so --I should be glad to know where there is good land to be taken
up how far from meeting adn from Kendal what the timber is on
the land and whether the water is good and the most important
is whether it is likely to be healthy - Likewise how the crops
of grain came in the last season and whether it is likely that
I can have a house that will accommodate my family for a
short time I have a wife and three children.
If thou art willing to answer these questions and if thy answer
is encouraging I expect to set out to remove to thy neighbourhood
in sixth month next.
John Wtichel and wife expect to remove to Frankford next
week their son has returned to the Ohio he set off from here
week before last - It is trying to me to trouble a stranger
so much - Nothing else but to save the expense of traveling
so far to view would induce me to do it.
Now if thou art willing to answer my request and direct
it to me in Stroudsburgh Northampton county Pa
thou wilt oblige thy friend Elisha W. Hoag
P.S. Mary Witchel was at our house this evening and on my
telling her that I expected to write to thee she desired
