Mary Bajwa and her husband Singh live in the Washington D.C. area. Bajwa was selected for outstanding work as both an educator and highly awarded real estate agent. She encouraged students to "pick the brains" of their teachers. She reminded those present that "No man is an island. The decisions you are making now, may effect you for the rest of your life." She quoted Proverbs 3:5-6. "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make straight paths for your feet." Michael Brady has an impressive list of accomplishments and is currendy a probate judge in Logan County, who deals with juvenile cases. His advise to Amherst students was build strong family situations and Five alumni of Marion L. Steele High School were inducted into the school's Gallery of Success last Friday. He mentioned that not many accolades were given him in school, and he just had to take time and grow up. Just because others may not be- ' lieve you can succeed, don't let that stop you. "Success is small steps accomplishing small goals." Deborah Meesig, also a resident of Columbus and a surgeon, told students to set their minds to do something. "If you have a goal • follow it. If you work hard, you can accomplish anything you want to." Major Thomas Stokowski, reminisced about school, football and the Army. He stressed that peer pressure can be used in a positive sense, that good peer pressure can push one beyond the envelop of mediocrity. His heroes are men and women in the Army who "Reached back for that little bit extra to drive on." He discouraged all students from quitting, so that after they have been out of high school 21 years, they too will have no regrets. Neighborhood's ^paee-age' house on tour of homes The American Association of University Women, (AAUW) is holding its annual tour of homes Saturday Oct 2. Proceeds are placed into a scholarship fund trom which many area students have benefited since its inception 41 years ago. Tickets and visit guidelines are available from Joan Parsons in Lorain at 288-0676, or from Patti Wegehaupt in Amherst at 988-8016. The $10 tickets are also available from: Higgins Pharmacy, Off Broadway Flowers, David Anthony Salon, Fratiane Flowers, Palace Civic Center, The Mermaid's Tail, Brandau Jewelers, Zelek's Florist, Sisson's Flowers and the William's House. One of the six homes in this year's tour of homes has been chosen from the Amherst area. The Lesner home, located at 45180 Middle Ridge Road, is known as the "Jetson House" by the neighborhood kids because, of its space-age appearance. Mark Lesner grew up in the Highland Park area of Lorain, graduating in 1972 from Admiral King High School. He attended Baldwin- Wallace during the 1972-73 school year,-before electing to work for a year at the steel mill. Lesner then returned to college, switching to Kent State University, and graduated from there with a five-year architectural degree in 1979. At first glance at the house, one might wonder if Frank Lloyd Wright had built a home in Amherst. In bet architect and owner of this home, Mark Lesner of Mark Lesner and Associates, was strongly influenced by Wright and some of the famed architect's design tech- CONTINUED on page S .Anyone who has ever wondered what the inside of this house, at 45180 Middle Ridge Road, looks like on the inside will get a chance to see it firsthand by buying a ticket to tho AAUW tour of homes. Annexation a must for city to take on 'nowhere sewer' ; The Amherst Township "sewer to nowhere" is still going nowhere. ; Mayor John Higgins presented a proposal to the Lorain County commissioners on Sep. 9 outlining the pity's terms and conditions lo provide sanitary sewer service to rati- jdents who will tie into the Rt 58 hewer system. 1 According to commissioner Mary Jo Vasi. the holdup is that me com- jpiissionen need more information from the city. rTheh proposal was vague; whet's fee cost going to her Vasi asked. 1 "I don't see too many people Un- W up around her to grab this thing, hut they sure wist to make it diiB- Higtlae cation. As part of an agreement, Amherst insists that in inspection verifying condition should be undertaken, preferably by both dty and county, and any repairs that might be needed, should be paid for by the county. Amhent is dogmatic about the area along Rt 58 between Middle Ridge Road and Rt 113 being annexed to the chy, and that residenu who tie into the sewage system from outside the Rt 58 annex ana would have to agree not so fight annexation should that be required later. There is at least one known quicksand pocket along Middle Ridge Road, and the prospect of having to deal with both solid rock and quicksand during installation of an inteicept line is not far fetched, and either could akyrocket construction costs, tlw mayor explained.
