Subject	Society of Separatists of Zoar.; Zoar (Tuscarawas County, Ohio)--Photographs.
Description	Photographers Louis Baus; F. Beck, Steubenville, Ohio; Rezin Clark, Artist, Bolivar, Ohio; Courtney Studio, Canton, Ohio; The Empire Gallery, Canton, Ohio; W.N. Harbaugh, Canal Dover, Ohio; H.F. Peck, Photographer, Akron, Ohio.; The collection contains photographs relating to the Society of Separatists of Zoar from the 1870s to the 1960s. There are formal portraits as well as more candid shots of members of the Society and village residents. There are also images of Zoar buildings, including some more recent images of some of the buildings in various states of disrepair.; Future members of the Society of Separatists of Zoar arrived in the United States from Germany in 1817. They bought a tract of land on the Tuscarawas River in northeastern Ohio that became the Zoar settlement. They adopted a form of communalism as their economic system and the Society of Separatists of Zoar was officially established on April 15, 1819. In 1884 Zoar was incorporated as a village. Dissent arose among Society members at the end of the 19th century and the formal decision to dissolve the Society was made in 1898.; Exhibited: "Moments in Time" by the Ohio Historical Society, March - December 2004.
