-The Zionists "are burning up because, of the recent radio speech in which Rabbi Morris Lazaron warned American Jews to have nothing to do with the forthcoming visit of Dr. Chaim "Weizmann ... The Baltimore rabbi said that the Jews of this country cannot afford to get mix¬ ed up with the political ramifica¬ tions of political ZlonLsm at this time. . .Did you know that there is a Hebrew Braille Alphabet, created for the use of those blind people who can read only Yiddish or Hebrew? . : . It was the Jewish Braille Review which formulated it and brought about its official adoption in 1936 . . .- Too bad Frederick Lonsdale's play "Foreigner" is doomed to have only a brief, career on Broadway . . . HAKTFOBD (WNS)—A warn¬ ing to members of the Connecti¬ cut Valley. Association for Jew¬ ish College Students, against turning to the ideologies, parti¬ cularly communism, for the ans¬ wer to antl-Selnitism, was is¬ sued here by Rabbi B. Benedict Glazer, of Temple ; Emanu-El, New York, speaking here before a conference of the Association Asserting that Judaism was one of the foundations of democracy. Rabbi Glazer declared that: "In helping to preserve democracy you are helping to preserve Judaism."
Rabbi Glazer stressed„the fact that Democracy is based on the truth that each individual "must be regarded as a sacred entity" and that this implied "economic as well as true political demo-, cracy". He held that democ¬ racy is one of three, "resources" which students had to aid them in facing modern problems, others being education and re¬ ligion. Rabbi Glazer prophe¬ sied that a single lyorid govern¬ ment was coming "if there are to be human beings and funda¬ mental institulions "

NEW YORK (WNS)—George "Van No.sdall, corpulent chief of the fascist Crusaders .for Ameri¬ canism, Inc., working in close cooperation with Kuhn's Ger¬ man-American Bund, is not averse to m a k i n g m o n e y through selling books under the excuse of aiding .'German and Jewish refugees, according to "The Hour", a news-letter is¬ sued by the Anierican Council Against Nazi, Propaganda. "Tile Hour" , states it has at its dis¬ posal a catalogue, advertising a book and manuscript auction in New York fpr December 3, and 7, the cover of Which was later i-eprinted with alterations, among other changes postponing the sale until December 12, 13 and 14. The original unaltered cover reads: "Unrestricted Pub¬ lic Auction.' A Magnificent Col¬ lection of Hare Books—First Editions —Autographs -—Manu¬ scripts. By order of Louis H. Bloch and S. H. Braunstone, at¬ torneys. New; York City. Ameri; can Committee for Christian Re¬ fugees and Jewish Retugees Committee, New York City, Will Benefit in the Proceeds fiom thib Sale" The sale was bot to take place at Steinway Hall, Ul We=;t .'STlh Sticet, undei the management of tho New Yoik Book and Auction Company of the same address
Nowhere in the catalogue could a nenlion'ot Var- N<!s- dall's name be found, but that Van Nosdall n the man behind the sale has been established by "The IIoui" as well as by seveial anti "^azi and anti fascist organi zations of New Yoik More¬ over, Van Nosdall ib lohably reported to have said to a close cncle ot his Bundstei friends
that he will give, the Bund the sum of $500 out of the proceeds of this sale. He remarked that Jews are book-lovers and book- buyers and that he will get Jew¬ ish money in this way tor his and the Bund's needs.
Committees Non-Existcnf According to "The Hour", the two organizations to aid refu¬ gees, mentioned in the catalogue, are non-existent. There is the American Committee for Chris¬ tian German Refugees at 287 Fourth Avenue, New York City, of which Mr. James M. Speera is chairman and Dr. Thomas Mann honorary chairriian, and which is often represented by the executive secretary of its depart¬ ment of education, iDr. Ernest W. Meyer. But neither this Committee nor any ot its offi¬ cers is in any way connected with the sale organized by the fascist Van Nosdall. In fact, the names of the bona-fide Com¬ mittee and that of Van Nosdall'.=i creation are not entirely identi¬ cal, tor the fascist left out the word "German" in the title of his non-existent Committee. The two attoii^eys, whobc names adoin Van Nosdall's catalogue, repiesenl no organization Jew¬ ish or Chribtian, but serve their own personal Interests.
When repuntcd, the catalogue omitted the names of the attor¬ neys and of the two fictitious -^oromittqes, but ennu^.^lio^^ buyei s have received the w ~'-™ dl unaltered issue who ma,y want to come to the sa) under the notion that at leasj part of their money would help re¬ fugees Neither ot the two editions mentioned the name of Van NosddU and his fascist affil¬ iations
Present Immigranl Inf lux intu U. S. A.
NEW YORK (WNS)—Results of a study of the refugee situa¬ tion in this country, contained in the current issue of "Social Work Today", serve to dispiite a widespread impression that European unrest has brought a flood of immigrants to the Unit¬ ed States.
Prepared by leading Protes¬ tant, Catholic and Jewish groups, the report urges the maintenance ot the traditional American policy ot hospitality to the immigrant, pointing out that from 1931 to 1939, 457,675 immigrants entered the United States. This was the smallest number coming to this country since the decade 1831 to 1840, when nearly 600,000 arrived here.
An editorial signed by three membei'S of the advisory editor¬ ial cbmmlttee, consisting of the Rev. Dr. John P. Boland, chair¬ man ot the State Labor Rela¬ tions Board; Dr. Eduard C. Lindeman ot the New York School ot Social Work; and Harry G.
