Don't think that the British let Hitler get away with canceling Austria's debt to England or oven drop¬ ping interest payments, as he tried to do, . . They Iiavo been, collecting everything due them^ having threatened that unless regular interest payments were made they would seize Ger¬ many's trade balance in Eng¬ land, . . IjOOK and IjISTBN
Johp. Hamilton, chairman of tlie Republican National Com¬ mittee, is highly jittery about the effect whicii the tying up of his name with the anti-Semitic campaign . of General Moseley may have had upon the public mind. . . He's sending out car¬ loads of literature proving that he fought the Ku-Klux Klan, Urged tlie Rev. GeraldWinrod's defeat in his Kansas Senatorial campaign and was shocked by reports of Nazi cruelty in Ger¬ many. . . Mr. Hamilton is not an anti-Semite, but his dislike for Roo.sovolt is so deep that he has more than once been indis¬ creet in his choice of bedfel¬ lows. . . Walter Winchell, who has a knack of being penetrat¬ ing as well as smart;, says that it General Moseley is not Nazi he is a rat' that doesn't like cheese, , , Note of warn¬ ing: There are millions ot loyal Americans of German descent who don't care for Nazism any more than you or we, blit the tendency in some circles to discriminate against all people of Gorman descent is beginning to get their goat, and may drive them to join Nazi groups in self-defense. . . 'Tis said that the Nazis, hav¬ ing the fear of God put into them hy Attorney General Murphy's drive against their spies, have transferred their North American spy headquar¬ ters to Canada, near the U. S. border. . . The Nazi Association for German Abroad, ot which Ernst Wilhalm Bohle is the head, is veiy much satisfied with the "loyalty and support" it receives from Nazis in Amei'- ica, and prophesies that they will be most useful in case ot emergency, . . Get ready for sensational headlines on Nazi and Italian military preparations In South America, . i 'I'hat re¬ port about an important; Nazi air base in Dolivia, so vehement¬ ly denied by tho Bolivian gov¬ ernment, is only a tenth of the full truth. . , The rea.son why the hawlters of Father Cough¬ lin's Social Justice are so insist¬ ently persistent is that they are permittctl to keep whatever (Contlnuoil on Vaee V

Impoi-tant Agencies Depend Upon Success of
Local Fund-Raising Effort
To mpet the'grave problem of oppression and liome- Icssness in European lands, to answer the challenge o£ Nazi barbarism and persecution, and to meet the pressing needs which the year 1038 has raised both locally and internationally, the lU.'l!) United Jevvish Fund Campaign for Refugees, Overseas and National Needs was formally launched last Thursday evening, with the opening dinner at the Winding Hollow Country Club. Over t50 were in attendance at this important function, presided over by E. .7. Schanfarber and Simon Lazarus. The true picture of world -Jewry was revealed by Schanfarber and Fred Lazar¬ us, Jr., the latter being a member of-the executive board of the Ainerican Jewish Committee.
The dinner which launched the campaign in behalf of •to agencies vital to Jewish existence, welfare and protec¬ tion throughout the world proved to be one of the most outstanding communal events for overseas causes ever held in Columbus. This year's fund-raising effort is for the relief and resettlement of German refugees, for aid to the stricken Jewish populations in Central and Eastern Europe,
l'
and settlement in Palestine.

SHIPS CONTINUE TO LEAVE EUROPEAN PORTS WITH REFUGEES
Bl^IMBEST (WNS)—Salt¬ ing from the Black Sea port of Mangalia, the steamer Mamara, with SOO Jewish refugees aboard, all from Germany, left for an unknown destination. It is be¬ lieved that the ship, flying the Panamanian flag, will attempt to disembark the passengers in Palestine or somewhere on the African coast. The Greek steam¬ er AghiOB Nicolaos, however, was prevented froin leaving the same port with its 552 refugee passengers. All were sent back to Constanza where many , had been waiting at least three months for an opportunity to emigrate. Among the retugees wore 152 Jews who had escaped from the Nazi concentration camp at Dachau. It was re¬ ported that approximately 1,300 refugees were waiting on three river boats between the ports ot Tulcea and Sulina on the Danube River, waiting for per¬ mission to continue the trip to the Black Sea. It is believed that most ot these retugees are bound for Shanghai.

A junior division of the Uni¬ ted Jewish Fund was organized last Wednesday evening at a meeting held at the Schonthal Center. Some 25 boys iind girls, representing the various youth groups of this city were present and heard I, W. Garek, local attorney, discuss the var¬ ious aspects of the United Fund operation, and its importance to world Jewry.

Every Jew In Columbus and surrounding towns is being called upon this year for an un¬ precedented degree ot sacrificial giving and generosity. That generosity- Is necessary-not-pwly- because the needs of the com¬ munity and the Jewish people everywhere have increased, tremendously during the tragic- months just passed, but also the problems of Jews in Central and Eastern Europe are so impel¬ ling as to command unprece¬ dented attention at this time. Spirit of Vnificil Action
To date, tho spirit of oneness and unity established through the one major campaign for thirty causes, embracing eveiy phase of social, cultural, and civic welfare has been trans¬ lated into unanimous and en¬ thusiastic ettort on the pairt of the entire Columbus commun¬ ity. The success ot the dinner, with. approximately $81,500 be¬ ing raised, and consequently the campaign of Columbus for refugees, overseas, and national needs shoulU be assured, with the extra ordinary devotion, zeal, and spirit of the campaign otticers, division clialrmen, and campaign solicitors
With unprecedented devotion to the cause they consider to Vie a moral counter attack against the barbaric forces that threat¬ en to reduce western civiliza¬ tion to ruins, some fifty work¬ ers are already actively engag¬ ed in soliciting subscriptions from. every Jewish man and woman in this community.
Urgent appeals by local cam¬ paign leaders for doubling tmd trebling ot last year's gifts is occasioned not: only by virtue of the fact that the campaign quota provides for the needs of refugee!; who must be cared for in their present havens of refuge throughout the world and must also be provided with centers for colonization and resettlement, but also because the future ot Palestine depends upon the income from the ih-ive. Depending also upon the United Jewish Fund Campaign are the educational, recreational and relief agencies thruout Amer¬ ica, all of whicii are included
