Rare Salomon Document Presented to Hebrew University in Palestine
Major Edward Bowes has just presented to the Hebrev? Univer¬ sity in Palestine 8 rare docu¬ ment containing tlie autograph ot Haym Salomon, the Hebrew patriot of the American Revolu¬ tion, and the friend ot Washing¬ ton, Madison and Jefferson, ac¬ cording to an .innouncement by Dr. A. S. W. Rosenbach, presi¬ dent of the American Frionda of the Hebrew University. There are only a few documents of Haym Salomon known to exist, and the Hebrew University has lon^ desired one. It will Toe added to the collection of autographs ot famous .lews, formed by Dr. Abraham Schwadron, who do¬ nated the collection to the Hebrew University Libraiy in 1927. It is the largest collection of its kind in the world.
The document which Major Bowes has presented to the Hebrew University is a promis¬ sory note tor 1707 pounds ten shillings, which bears Salomon's endorsement. This is the first document of Salomon's to be placed in any library in the Near East.
Haym Salomott was one of the men who financed the Anierican Revolution, together with his frieiid Robert Morris, whose autograph, dated May 14, 1785, has also been presented to_ the Hebrew. University by Bowes.
Another successful member¬ ship campaign 'for-Zion- Lodge No. 62, B'nai B'rith, will . be climaxed with the initiation of a class of 80 candidates next Monday evening, March 27, 8 o'clock, at the Bro&d St. Templel Zion Lodge degree team, under the leadership of Attorney Sam¬ uel Luper, who will conduct the initiatory services.

LONDON (WNS)— The ulti¬ mate objective of the British Government proposals for a solution of the Palestine prob¬ lem, as made public to the Arab and Jewish delegations, will be an Independent State of Pales¬ tine, neither Arab nor Jewish but possibly Federal. The Brit¬ ish plan involves a minority status for the Jews of Palestine and restriction of Jewish immi¬ gration and land sales to Jews. A provision of the plan is that the Jewish National Home is to be safeguarded. The Inde¬ pendent State Is to be preceded by a transitional period which has not.been fixed exactly, but which the Government hopes will be ten years, if Jewish co¬ operation can be secured In that time. Meanwhile, as soon as order has been restored In Palestine, Jewish ahd Arab representatives are to be added to both the Ad¬ visory and the Executive Coun¬ cils; and these representatives are to be named by the Govern¬ ment according to the respective proportions of the Jewish and Arab populations. The Govern¬ ment expresses the. hope that after two years these representa¬ tives will he elected by the citizens of Palestine themselves. The High Commissioner, ac¬ cording to the proposals, will have special powers for prohibit ing and regulating the zones for purchase of land by the Jews.
