Bush Names Gordon Zacks Co-Chair

Columbus Torah Academy
Holds Graduation Exercises
Vice President George
Bush last week named local
businessman Gordon B.
Zacks co-chair of his newly
formed Middle East Advisory
Committee. The committee
will make recommendations
to the Republican Platform
Committee and will assist the
Vice President with issues
and policy preparation for
debates, position papers and
other campaign-related
activities. Ambassador Richard Fairbanks will serve with
Zacks as the other committee
chairman.
Graduation exercises for
the eighth grade class were
held at Columbus Torah
Academy on June 8 at 7 p.m.
with Dr. Henoch Millen
presiding.
After the processional by
the graduates, Phillip Katz,
of the graduating class,
offered a reading from
Psalms 119. The president of
Torah Academy, Robert
Schottenstein, extended
greetings to the graduates'
families and friends. Choral
music was offered by the
children of grades three,
four and five under the direction of Susan Avitan with
Orly Halpern as pianist. Tire
graduates' presentation,^
"Thos Having Toraches Will
Pass Them on to Others,"
was written by the graduates
and directed by Marcia
Hershfield with assistance
from Annabelle Snyder. *
Rabbi Chaim Hisiger presented the Meshulam Riklis
Language Scholarship Award
to Barry Uhrman. The Riklis
Award, granted annually,
provides $5,000 toward college tuition to the student who
is distinguished in the study
of Hebrew language.
The Bernard and Naomi
Schottenstein Award enables
a graduate to participate in a
work/study program in
Israel. Their son, Harlan
Schottenstein announced that
the award will be shared by
Joshua Radnor and Jeremy
Hershfield.
Rabbi Julius L. Baker
established an award for a
year's tuition, to be granted
to a. student who is diligent in
Torah study. This year,
Rabbi Baker's granddaughter, Samantha Baker, a past
graduate of Torah Academy,
presented the award to a
seventh grader, Stuart
Shindel.
The Torah Academy Citizenship Award went to Alon
Frank.
Representing the graduates, Sharon Frank presented
the class gift to PTO President Amy Schottenstein.
After the awarding of diplomas by Rabbi Millen and
Robert Schottenstein, Rabbi
Millen addressed the graduates. Adam Perler closed the
ceremony with a reading
from Psalms 100. After the
recessional, a reception was
held in the school library.

invaluable in helping the
campaign address the full
range of challenges and
opportunities that our nation
faces in the Middle East,"
said Vice President Bush.
"I have known Dick and
Gordy for years and am
eager to continue my work
with them as we work to
develop a comprehensive
policy for the Middle East,"
said the Vice President.

Plans July 25 Annual Meeting
The Eighth Annual Meeting ofvthe Columbus Jewish
Foundation will be held Monday, July 25, at6:15p.m. The
Eleanor Resler
meeting, to be held at the
Hyatt Regency, will feature
special honoree Eleanor
Resler,1 announce co-chairpersons Karen Moss and
David Milenthal.
Resler's commitment and
dedication to Columbus
spans more than 60 years.
Her involvement in the
Jewish community is legendary and includes: B'nai
B'rith Hillel Foundation —
OSU; Brandeis Women's
Committee; Columbus
Jewish Federation; Columbus Jewish Foundation;
Heritage Village; Jewish
Family Service; Leo Yassenoff Jewish Center; National Council of Jewish Women; Temple Israel Sisterhood, and the United Jewish
Appeal.
The greater Columbus
area has also benefited from
her dedication to community
service and her involvement
in numerous civic organizations including: Children's

most respected and knowledgeable members of their
respective fields, and their
advice and guidance will be
extremely helpful as the
campaign progresses."
In addition to his position
as Assistant Secretary of
State, Fairbanks Has served
as a special negotiator for
Mid-East Peace Process and
as ambassador-at-large in
the Reagan Administration.
Zacks, the chairman and
chief executive officer for
the, RG Barry Corporation,
is a member of the Advisory
Board of the Center for Strategic and International Studies and the President's Advisory Committee on Trade
Negotiations.
"George Bush understands the critical importance of the Middle East to
world peace, and the members of this committee are
unanimously in support of
his bid for the presidency,"
said Zacks. "We will work
together to ensure that
George Bush is elected; and
we want to help his Administration conduct a positive
and successful policy in the
Middle East."

Heritage Village To Name Wexner
Honorary Chairman Of The Board
Heritage Village will
bestow its highest board
honor on Mrs. Harry Wexner
by conferring upon her the
lifetime position of honorary
chairman of the board. The
special recognition will be a
highlight of the Heritage Village Annual Meeting, to be
held on Sunday, July 10, at
7 p.m. at Heritage Village. ,
According to outgoing
President Louis Robins and
Sylvia C. Schecter, chairwoman of Nominating Committee, this position recognizes "■''our Bella for her
heartfelt and dynamic leadership of both the Admissions Committee and the 'We
Are Their Children' cam-
. paign, which are an inspiration to the entire Heritage
Village Family."
Wexner's award is only the
second time ir» Heritage Vil
lage's history that there has
been an honorary chairman
of the board. The late Abe
Wolman received the position in recognition of his
dedicated efforts to create
the original Heritage House
and-work tirelessly on the
home's behalf.
