BERLIN—Not only Jews, but Protestants and Catliolics as weil are oppose' to the showing o£ the Cecil dc Mille production "King o£ Kings," as a picture which is offensive to the religious sensibilities of the various denominations.
The Central Institute for Education and Instruction of Berlin, to whom the film was submitted, declined to approve it as being of educational value. 'Kuratiis Wienken, a leading Catholic priest who is a membcf of the Filmpruefstelle, asked that the showing of the film' lo school children and Students in the upper schools be prohibited. '
Leading in the opposition to the "King of Kings" is the Evangelical Oiurch. Most outspoken in censuring the ifilm as offensive to devout Christians was Pfarrer tic Horn. In.Germany the .film is shown with, what is supposed to be an "en¬ dorsement of Rabbi Israle Gctldfarb of Beth Israel Anshe Ernes/', and of the Ber¬ lin Court Chaplain, Vogcl. '
"I have no quarrel with Mr. Goldfarb. This may be left tothe rabbis among tiiemsdves. I am certain they will do it thoroughly; I hope before the anti-Sem- itics settle it- I am also vviliing to leave the discussion with Messrs. Schildkraut to the Jewish, critics. It is true that I cannot go as far in, my criticism as Dr. J Hollander of the Central Verein, who declared the 'King of Kings' to be a film of • inciting influence, but I, as a representative.of religious art and as a priest of the Evangelical Church, join in protesting against this junible,!' Dr. Horn declared to.the "C. V. Zeitung."
¦ Still stronger is the opposition to the showing of, the film voiced by the Evan¬ gelical weekly, "Das Evengelische Berlin."
"The filmJike any other motion picture had to be submitted to the Filmpreufr steile. The representatives of three great religious societies were invited as ex- perls to express their opinion before the (Examining .comniittcc. The objections of the Evangelical Church were expressed by Troschke, Councillor of the High Con¬ sistory and meriiber of the Federation of Churches. As he explained, in reply to our inquiry,, Councillor Troschke voiced bis deep regret that this film is so little , in,accordance witli the fcelingof the Evangelical Church. Moreover in its gen=- eral impression, it is even offensive to this, feeling. He protested in particular agailist the long drawn out.scenes of the bacchanal which is an introduction to a Christ film IS unbearable aiid could be conipared to an unclean gate leading to a sanctuary. .. ¦¦
"Fiirth<;rmore, the scenes depicting.the Crucifixion and the beating were done in a sadistic, manner. He expressed hiiiiself particularly against misuse of Scrip-r ture texts in the titles. In many instances the texts were unpardnnably mutilated, falsified and interwoven with profane sentences.
, "Councillor TroschW expressed grave .objectidns to the.laxity with which Biblical history is treated in this film. This laxity is,to be found not only in the continuity of the particular.scenes but also in the combination of details for which; one can find. lio foundation in the New Testament. The role of Mary Magdalene and Judas, which is the central point in the first scene, cannot be justificd:on the basis of the New Tqstahient, nor on the records of the Apocrypha.
"We do not doubt," ttje Evangelical organ declares "that this energetic pro¬ test of Councillor Troschke atid the sharp denunciation of the expert and repre¬ sentative of the Evangelical church, uttered in no uncertain terms, fully corre¬ sponds with the opinion of. the widest circles in the Church.''

To see the happiness and healthiness of these little tots, so well guarded ahd carc<l for, under .the conscientious super¬ vision-.of Mrs. Virgini;i Postpn, suffices to enthuse each and every one who en¬ ters this splendid home.
The babies are adiriitted here from the time they are two weeks old, and each and every^ one thrives most won¬ derfully. They arc at all times kept spic and span, cleanliness throughout the home .being most perceptible. It. might well be said for any little tot, fortunate enough to be sheltered in this happy at- thosphcre, and the splendid environments, "is a joy forever!"
Mrs. Edgar' B. Isaac, who is at the honie daily,, docs miich to maintain all this, not only in her secretarial capacity, but in her efficient management in all departments of the home; The kiddies look forward each day to her coming with great joy as she is ever solicitous about their welfare.
iirs. Frank, O. Nusbianm is our gra¬ cious new President of the home, and is ,uvcT.giving of herself and her time to¬ wards its benefit.
Last Sunday our grand "Uncle Joe," assisted by the officers and directors, sponsored a public reception and tea," which many of our friends attended and deeply enjoyed. All visitors were shown through the home, comtnented most fa¬ vorably aboiit the kiddies and the sani¬ tary condition not only of every room, but of every nook and corner.

"TRUE MARRIAGE IS THE GREATEST OPPORTUNITY IN
THE WORLD FOR PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT AS
WELL AS SERVICE TO OTHERS," HE ASSERTS
J. C. HARRINGTON CHOSEN PRESIDENT OF THE CHARITY NEWSIES

Other officers choscii are as follows: Thomas Pickard, 10f> Nelsnn Rd., vice president.; Garrett M. Cotterrsecretary; John F. McFcrin, corresponding secre¬ tary; Car.I M. Pfeiffer, treasurer, and Russell Dennis, sergeant-at-armS. .
When Cotter attempted to resign the secretary-treasurcrsbip he has held for 20 years, the .Newsies refused, split hir! job in tliree jjarts, and elected Pfeiffer and McFerin to aid him.
The new trustees, elected are as fol¬ lows; David R. Jones, retiring president, chairman; H. E..Vollman. H. L. Freiden- berg, S. S, Jackson,' Jacob E. Retss and. Earl Roach.
The annual "Pep Diiiner" of the Char¬ ity Newsies will be held oh Dec. I3th at the Elks Home, Harrington announced. The drive will start on Dec. I7th. Jories said the Newsies- can get $26,000 this year, if they will work at full speed. A service .for Charity Newsies and their families' will be given at the Bryden. Road Temple by Rahbi Jacob Tarshish tomorrow (Sunday). The service will Ije radiocast thru Station WAIU.
"Marriage is an institution for adults, who know what they want, not for ado¬ lescents who. want to change their minds every, few days," Rabhi L.ce j. Levinger said Sunday, Dec, 4th, in discussing com¬ panionate marriage at the services of the B'nai B'rith Hillel Foundation, held at Hcnnick's Hall on North High street.,
"It is an institution based on responsi¬ bility and intentioni not on whim," he said. "That does not mean that our, present marriage customs or laws .arc unalterable. They have changed many times in the past, and, certainly will change again in the future. It may even be that Judge. Lindsey has hit the di¬ rection of" this development in his inter¬ esting and provoking book. . Three Requirements
I'l ivould lay down three requirements for every marriage, and one more for every completely developed horiie.' Firsts every marriage must be a real marriage; there is no such thiiig as trial marriage oi-'free love possible in. a social world where every jierson needs every other and where every person must take his duties seriously. Responsibility is a part of adiih life, and particularly a part .pf that peculiarly adult function, marriage.
"Second, every marriage iti modern life must include the element of companion¬ ship. Romaiitic .love of the' trbiibadour? ha?; grown into a much more snrious ideal, nowadays, and ¦ha.s contributed its share tn the devclopmentof the .marriage ideal. The companionate ideal is at the basis of modern marriage. ' .
''Third, every marriage demands pi"ep-" aration in knowledge and character. The physical ¦ issues involved, as well as'the. moral and ..-ocial ones, should be taught thoroughly to every young person to fit him or lier for a happy and successful married life-, Our young people of to¬ day know so maiiy things, hicluding very few which really count. Most m^rriag'es are hit-or-niiss affairs, which succeed only because the people arc willing, to go through a hard course of schoplingr after they are married. ; The Ideal and Complete Marriage
"Finally, the ideal marriage, the com¬ plete marriage, includes children and the
family life. In .this far, Judge Luid- sey's idea may be considered seriously, of a secondary kind of marriage for com¬ panionship only, without the bearing or . rearing of children.
"What we often forget is' that tht rearing of children is not. only a. con¬ tribution to society or a favor, to the children ,thcmseIveR, but it also is the- greatest incentive in. the, world to per¬ sonal development, to the completion and fulfillment of personality.
"The rich experience and need for.un-. derstamling that come with-parenthood . have done more than any other one thing for the spiritual enrichment of the race." .
Before, laying clown his own opinions on marriage. Rabbi Levinger reviewed , Judge Lindsey's book and showed that he was trying to arrange certain detailed chaiiges in thie present maririage and di-y vorce law.*. The two most important are legalization of birth control and permis¬ sion for childless couples to divorce each other by mutual consent without neces¬ sity of a criminal charge against one or„ the other. _
The History of Marriage
He then traced briefly the history of marriage in the past to -show the many changes in human relationships arid .par¬ ticularly in the marriage institution, which have led to our present'ideas, and elements in the present marriage system which are survivals of a-different: period . in the past...
"The old Jewish conception of ,niar- riage,'.' he said, "was as a sacred duty, ¦ by which every man and woman should; marry and bring, up childrento perpetu¬ ate his name.' Tt rested on the idea .of .'duty, on loyalty of husband and, wife, and on duty and loyalty taught early to the children. And these elements of duly and. loyalty arc the ones we are likely to forget in. the rush of emotion and the play of faiicy.
"True , marriage is thie greatest opr portunity in the world for personal de¬ velopment as well as service to others^ Tt is self-realization through self-sacri¬ fice. It is the fulfillment of our own best selves, through communion and sharing. with another."
