David Valinsky Appointed
Of I. Yassenoff Jewish Center
David Valinsky has been
named Associate Executive
Director of the Leo Yassenoff Jewish Center, according
to Center President Michael
Talis; "This promotion reflects the increased responsibility assumed by Valinsky
in the Leo Yassenoff Jewish
Center in the areas of programming and administration. We are pleased that he
is accepting this challenging
assignment: He will continue
to work with Executive
Director Allan Finkelstein to
lead the Center through the
exciting years ahead."
Valinsky has been associated with the Center for
five years, first as Director
of Health and Physical Education and, for the past two
years, as Assistant Execu
tive Director. He has been
instrumental in the innovation and success of many
events—such as the recent
50's Dance and the annual
chaperones.
According to Handler,
many members have
already agreed to sponsor
one to 100 children at $6 per
child. This provides admission to the Fair, all rides,
lunch arid favors, he
explained.
Maccabee and Zion
Lodges' telephone committee will meet on Thursday,
July 7, at the Leo Yassenoff
Jewish Center, 1125 College
Ave., at 8 p.m. Every lodge
member will receive a call,
Handler said, noting, that
last year 50 percent of the
members responded
affirmatively.
Leo Weinberg and Richard
Grundstein are co-chairmen
of the event.

Arens Declares
Israel To Rely
On Diplomacy
JERUSALEM (JTA)-
Defense Minister Moshe
Arens said last week that
Israel does not intend to use
force to get Syrian troops out
of Lebanon but relies hopefully on the diplomatic process. He warned however, in
an address to the Jewish
Agency's annual Assembly
here, that Israel would have
no choice but to take military action again in a few
years if a situation existed
such as the one that
prompted its invasion of
Lebanon in June-1982.
Arens was sharply critical
of Egypt which called home
its Ambassador in Tel Aviv
when the Lebanese war
broke out and has still not
returned the envoy to his
post. He also expressed concern o|ver the large scale
military aid Egypt was
deceiving from the U.S.
With respect to Israel's
present situation in Lebanon, Arens said that if Israeli
forces were withdrawn
unilaterally, the battlefield
would again be on Israel's
northern border.
