Mr. Kass has been In Columbus for the past seven years. Before tho Hitler years, ho was a teacher In the Hebrew schools of Viina. Although his family perished, he mit'aculously survived the holo- cauot of persecution, and was liberated by the American victory in Europe.
After a period of time as a Diaplaced Person, he was brought to the U. S. by American relatives in Milwaukee in 1949. In the autumn of 11*50 ho joined the staff of the Columbus Hebrew School, and he hac been a respected and beloved teacher .there ever since.
When he came to Colupibua, Mr. Kass was determined to obtain an American Education. Although he was no longer In his youth, he enrolled at East High School, and he completed the four years of high school In one year.
Arter his high school graduation, ho matriculated In the Arts College at Ohio State. At the time, his English was still halting, and the country and the ways of ouch a mammoth Institution were strange to him. Despite ouch obstacles, he persevered, taking a cource or two each quarter in the mornings before he began his full- time teaching duties.
His haid work and devoted efforts wore rewarded by the con¬ ferring of a Bachelor's Degree upon him at OSU last week.
Columbus Jewry admires a man whq so reverses learning that ho lets no obstacle deter him from obtaining an education in his adopted country. We are prpud to have Mr. Kass as a member of our community.
