CASE OF PALESTINE ARABS IS GIVEN BY DELEGATION'S HEAD
Musa Kazim Tells J. T. A. Na¬ tional Govemment Will Be Demanded
INSISTS ON REPUDIATION OF JEWISH HOME POLICY
LONDON, (J. T. A. Correspond¬ ence.).—Prior to his deparuire from London as Hiead oJ the Arab delega¬ tion, Musa' Pa-iha gave an interview to the J. T. A. (already briefly re¬ ported by cable), expressing his opinion on the position of the Arabs in Pal¬ estine and the demand put forward at preseiit by the Arab leaders.
The interview took place in the presence of Jamal el Husseini,_ secre¬ tary to the Arab executive, and other members of that body, and is' signifi¬ cant in view of the delegation's an¬ nounced intention of presenting their claims before the Duke of Devonshire and his cabinet committee studying the Palestine situation. (On the ground that a hfcaring before the committee would prove "impracticable" now, the Colonial Secretary has declined to re¬ ceive the Arab delegation, according to latest cable advices.—J. T. A., New York.)
What Arabs Will Demand
"What course of action will be adopted by your delegation in London ?"
¦ the J. T. A. representative asked.
"We shall not allow ourselves to be
'.affected by what the British government is thinking," replied Musa Kazim Pasha. "Wc believe in the justice of our de¬ mands and we shall persevere in our ef¬ forts to prevent interference with our rights; to this we .shall employ all legal means. I personally do not believe that the British government will persist in its present policy, as this is directly op¬ posed to its best interests and all ideas of justice.
"The delegation will demand: (a) Repudiation of the present Zionist policy; (b) the establishment' of an independent national constitutional government in Palestine consisting of (Concluded on page 6)

United States Has More Jews Than Any Other Country
Jews of World Number 15,500,000 Now According to Dr. H. S. Linfield, Jewish Statis¬ tician
NEW YORK IS THE
MOST POPULOUS CITY
NEW YORK, (J. T..A.).—3,600,000 Jews lived in continental United States in 1920, forming nearly 8J4% of the total population of that year, accord¬ ing to new statistics compiled by Dr. H. S. Linfield, director of the Department of Information and Statistics, of the Bureau of Jewish Social Research, and published in the "American Jewish Year Book" just off the press. The above figure was arrived at by- the author by taking the number of Jews of 1917-1918 and adding to it the natural increase of the Jewish population and the net in¬ crease of Jewish immigration during the period between 1917-1918 and 1920. The United States at present has more Jews than any other country in the world. Next come Poland with 3,500,- 000-and Russia, with 3,130,000 Jews.
The total Jewish population of the world, according to the author's revised statistics, is over lo,.'iOO,000., This is a conservative estimate being b.ased on the latest census of available reliable estimates. Over two-thirds of the Jewish population of the'world live in the continent of Europe; 25% in North (Concluded on page 6)

September 5, 192.^.
My Deau Mr. Neu.stadt :
Christopher Columbus spoke prophetic words wlli'n a ship loaded with Jeivish cvilcs from Spain passed his little fleet. He said the world he was going in search of was one "whose creation should be new born, a haven he afforded to the quickening. principle of liberty, and a temple reared to the (rod of enfranchised and redeemed con¬ sciences."
.^ince then the Jewi have been flosely identified zvith American history, and here in the United States, they have found the haven ivhich all Jewish sects have been seeking since Jerusalem was destroyed by Rome, and where they enjoy more liberty than they did before the dispersion. Because of their past e.vpericnce they zvili ahvay.t be op¬ posed to a union of church and stqtc, and cling to free-thought and constitutional government.
I wish the Jewish people of Columbus and Ohio a happy New i'car on the occasion of their celebration of that day this year.
Very truly yours.
Vic Donauev,
Governor.

"AMERICA NO PLACE FOR THE HYPHEN;;^ LEVITAN
Jewish People Are Demonstrat* ing Thorough-going Amer- ":-, • ican Citizenship
SPLENDID JEWISH
QUALITIES ENUMERATED
"There is no place anywhere in this country for the hyphen before the word 'American'," said Solomon Levitan, state treasurer of Wisconsin, in an address before the Northern Council of the B'nai B'rith consisting of the lodges of Du¬ luth, Superior, Hibbing, Ashland, and Virginia, at Ashland, Wisconsin, Sijn- day afternoon, August 20.
"Either you are Americans or you are aliens," continued Mr. Levitan. "If you call yourself a Jewish-American you are a'misfit; but if you take your place among other loyal Americans as .American Jew.s, then you possess an in¬ disputable right to all the opportunity that America offers.
"Loyalty to America is not hampered or made weaker, but rather is fostered and made stronger by loyalty to that ancient religious faith of ours, which through so many centuries has survived all persecution and hatred, and sus¬ tained the Jews in every land.
"Jews of this country have nothing to fear for the future. .A.I1 the poison of racial antagonism fbstered and brought to this country by the influence of the Russian monarchists, or that .which is now being stirred up by those ¦ "\*lio Would'.seeic to promote tfieir owft ' ,•¦ political or financial success. Will never have, any effect here.
"We have in our country one man, who, through his antagonism toward the Jews, is trying to raise himself to one of the highest political positions in the land; but his agitation is built on falsehood and it cannot stand. He never will be able to realize his ambi¬ tion. History has shown that we al¬ way have had some Hamans, but always we have overcome their evil influence. Think of the countries fhat have op¬ pressed the Jews, where are they today? Fate has visited justice upon them.
"Our Jewish people are demonstrat¬ ing a thorough-going American citizen; ship, and the American people are too (Concluded on page 6)

A Message for the New Year
By DR. STEPHEN S. WISE Rabbi of the Central and Free Synagogues
An invigorating Jevvish consciousness, which will not only recognize its duty to help out of the peace, plenty and se¬ curity enjoyed j^y Jews in America in the "economic furtherance" of the Jiii> everywhere, but which will strive to achieve unity "through the American Jewish or other instrumentality," un7/ utilise to the fullest the opportunity which Palestine offers to the Jew; and, finally, that will scorn to imitate the "unsportsmanlike and nndaring as¬ siinilationist" is Ihe Rosh Hashonna wish Dr. liaise sends his fellow Amer¬ ican Jezi's, through the Jexvish Tele¬ graphic Agency.—EmroK.
1 have a.wish for my fellow American Jews. What I inight petition for my brother Jews in Central s^nd l^ast European lands lies not in their hai(ds but largely, if not altogether, in the lips of their rulers and oppressors. Rulers and! oppressors forsooth, though kings have been banished and crowns are not.
What I crave for Jews throughout the American Republic lies for the most pa|-t, if not wholly, within the realn'i of
their will. 1 am not unmindful of the forces which seek to operate against the. .American Jew,—a movement, for ex¬ ample, wliMi would substitute the shroud of the midnight hour for the stars of the flag, and the attempt on the part of one poor victim of his vast wealth to erect the sin of anti-Jewish- ness into a Presidential, plat form.
But, unless the majesty of .American life js lightly to be shaken, unless Amer¬ ica is to cease to be, these things will pass as though they had not been. I remind i,ny fellow-Jews in .America that we are circumstanced ifi ways that parallel, though they do not quite dup¬ licate, the circumstance-of our country. .America has or seems to have certain things, which the rest of the world has not in the same measure. Our country enjoys peace, plenty, security. These are not only' nor chiefly possessions. They ought to be obligations. They are fast, becoming reproaches. The plenty aijd security which are treasured as private possessions rather than as public responsibilities are not a blessing (Concluded on page ^.)
THE PRESIDEINT'S MESSAGE
THE WHITE HOUSE
Aauon- M. Neustadt, Editor, Ohio Jewish Chronicle, Columbus, Ohio. >
Greetings :—
"The recurrence of Rosh-Hashona, the Jewish New Year, which this year falls on September llth, is always a reminder of the debt which the modern world owes to the Jewish people and their wonderful national culture. The occasion is one of significance not merely to the people of the Jewish faith and race, but to all who have been the inheritors of some part in the splendid estate of leadership, spirituality, and the service which they have given to the world for the common advantage.
(Signed) Calvin Coolidge."
NEW YEAR'S MESSAGE FROM UNION OF
AMERICAN HEBREW CONGREGATIONS
The Union of Anierican Hebrew Congregations extends to its. constituents and to all Israel in America and in Europe its best wishes for a Happy New Year. May the coming year be filled with many blessings for our beloved country, for the Jewish people and all mankind. May the New Year be kinder to a suffering world than the year that has passed into the Great Beyond.
Within the folds of- Israel in America there is much cause for congratulation. Not only has this been a year of serenity and peace, but it has been a year of Jewish striving. All organ¬ ized phases of Judaism are moving toward a strengthening of the faith, an intensifying of intelligent understanding of the fundamental tenets and root principles of the Jewish religion.
The New Year will, it is hoped, witness a great Jewish re¬ vival in America, a revival that will bring many blessings to us as' Jews and as Americans. In promise, the New Year dawns upon lis with every assurance that it is ushering in a better day for all Israel. God gjrant it be sol .
Charles Shohl, PrMirfwtf, Union of America Hebrew Congregations.
