In 1872, he came to Columbus and was a faithful employee of the Kelton family for over 30 years. His profession is listed as butler in the 1910 U.S. Census. He was also employed as a janitor at the Buckeye Steel Castings Company and the Citizens Telephone Company. He died November 4, 1918 and was buried in Greenlawn Cemetery in Columbus.

Sarah married Mathew Estice and they had five children, Katherine, Ella Marie, Ruth, Martha and Robert. Martha died in 1924 as the result of burns that she received in a fire at the Lawrence home on 69 N. Seventeenth Street in Columbus. Martha was also buried in Greenlawn Cemetery.
