SCOPE AND CONTENTS OF THE COLLECTION
The collection contains 12 digital video discs related to the history of the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender (GLBT) community in central Ohio sponsored by Stonewall Columbus in partnership with the Gay Ohio History Initiative (GOHI). Five discs are footage of panel discussions held by Stonewall Columbus about GLBT history on June 15, 2006 and June 21, 2006. The panel discussions are each accompanied by a program from the event. Two additional discs are a copy of a 30 minute production titled "You Can Fight City Hall: Lesbian and Gay Rights in the Midwest" produced in 1985 by Stonewall Union and Vivian Schaefer and footage of the 1982 Pride Parade, the first Pride Parade held in Ohio, with television news coverage.
The first panel discussions held on June 15 and June 21, 2006 were about the history of GLBT life in central Ohio from the 1940s through the 1980s. The 2007 discussions that were held on June 6, 13 and 20 were about the central Ohio lesbian community; the gay African American community; and male sex and dating before AIDS and the internet. In 2008 a June 3 discussion focused on the history of the AIDS crisis in central Ohio and a June 11 discussion focused on the history of the transgender community in central Ohio.
