HISTORICAL SKETCH OF THE COLLECTION
James Bliek, a Columbus, Ohio florist, studied and taught horticulture and floral design at conferences, small organizations and workshops for 35 years. He gathered this collection of photographs which document examples of historic floral arrangements for use in his classes.
SCOPE AND CONTENTS OF THE COLLECTION
The photograph collection includes images of flower peddlers; floral arrangements; bouquets and boutonnieres for weddings, graduations and first communions; and arrangements at cemeteries, funerals and churches. Various types of photographs are represented in the collection, including 19th century albumen and collodion cabinet cards, stereoviews, large format board photographs and colorized silver gelatin photographs from the early 20th century.
