Collection Synopsis
Provenance: The Ohio Historical Society acquired the Citizensv
Council for Ohio Schools Records as a gift of the councilr
through the auspices of the Executive Director, Susan Kaeserr in
August 1984. Peter Lundskow and Robert Viol processed the
col lection in January 1985.
Property rights: The Ohio Historical Society owns the property
rights to this collection.
Copyrights: The Council has dedicated such copyrights as it
possesses in this collection to the public. Consideration of all
other copyrights is the responsibility of the author and
pub1 isher.
Access: This collection is open under the rules and regulations
of the Ohio Historical Society.
Citation: Researchers are requested to cite collection name,
collection number, and the Ohio Historical Society in all
footnote and bibliographic references.
Transfers: Publications and a Dayton land use map were trans-ferred
to the library; photographs were transferred to SC 5037,
audiovisual materials were transferred to Video VFM 75, and Audio
VFM CAS 29- 31 in February 1985.
Historical sketch: The Citizensf Council for Ohio Schools ( CCOS)
was chartered as a private, non- profit organlzation on May 6,
1974. It functions as an independent, statewide organization
providing information on important issues in public education.
These issues include desegregation. school finance and manage-ment,
children out of schoolr citizen and parent parti~ ipatlon~
and vocational education. The Citizens' Council's objectives
are:
To raise public awareness and understanding of key lssues
in elementary and secondary educatlon;
To recommend state policies and plans for meeting the
special needs of students and maklng the best use of
resources;
To encourage effective citizen participation of district
programs.
The council's professional staff pursues these objectives through
research and publication, assistance to local groups, and
advocacy of better policies at the state and local levels.
