O r g a n i z a t i o n a l s k e t c h : The Foundation of t h e Columbus Chapter of
A r c h i t e c t s i s a n o n - p r o f i t c o r p o r a t i o n e s t a b l i s h e d i n 1974. I t s
purpose i s t o f a c i l i t a t e p u b l i c knowledge, u n d e r s t a n d i n g , and
a p p r e c i a t i o n of t h e a r c h i t e c t u r e of Columbus and i t s surrounding
a r e a . In 1976, t h e Foundation published A r c h i t e c t u r e : Columbus.
The work was prepared i n accordance with the following g o a l s :
" t o produce a q u a l i t y documentation of Columbus a r c h i t e c t u r e a t
the h e i g h t of i n t e r e s t g e n e r a t e d by the n a t i o n ' s b i c e n t e n n i a l
c e l e b r a t i o n ; t o produce a documentation o f t h e development and
a r c h i t e c t u r a l h e r i t a g e of Columbus s u i t a b l e to the needs of the
c i t y ' s r e s i d e n t s , s t u d e n t s , community groups, and v i s i t o r s ; and
t o s u s t a i n the e f f o r t beyond t h e i n i t i a l p u b l i c a t i o n t o avoid a
dated documentation." Funding f o r t h e p r o j e c t came from the
Columbus a r c h i t e c t u r a l community, v a r i o u s c i v i c o r g a n i z a t i o n s and
b u s i n e s s e s , t h e e d u c a t i o n a l community, and p r i v a t e c i t i z e n s .
