New J e r s e y , on A u g u s t 15, 1900. I n 1922 he r e c e i v e d a B. A. d e g r e e
f r o m Y a l e U n i v e r s i t y . M a r v i n w o r k e d as a newspaper r e p o r t e r and
e d i t o r i n P e n n s y l v a n i a , N o r t h C a r o l i n a , and New York f r o m 1923 t o
1929. I n 1 9 3 0 h e became t o w n c l e r k o f Mamaroneck, New Y o r k , a
p o s i t i o n he h e l d u n t i l 1 9 3 7 . From 1938 t o 19a2, he was employed
as a b a n k e r . On J u n e 1 5 , 1 9 3 9 , he m a r r i e d B e a t r i c e C o n s t a n t .
A f t e r s e r v i n g i n t h e U n i t e d S t a t e s Navy ( 1 9 4 2 - 1 9 4 5 ) M a r v i n and
h i s w i f e h e a d e d t h e Columbus ( O h i o ) S c h o o l f o r G i r l s f r o m 1946 t o
1948. I n 1953 M a r v i n r e c e i v e d a Ph. O. i n h i s t o r y f r o m The O h i o
