W. Tibbets Papers as a gift of Clair Stebbins, Zanesville,
Ohio, in November 1981. Marjorie J. Myers processed the
collection in April 1982.

1915 FEB 23 born, Quincy, Illinois; parents Enola Gay
Haggard and Paul Warfield Tibbets.
1928- 1933 attended Western Military Academy, Alton,
1933- 1936 attended University of Florida and the
University of Cincinnati.
1937 enlisted in Army Air Corps.
1938 JUN 19 married Lucy Wingate; two sons
1942 JUN- JUL flew first B- 17s to Great Britain, 97th Bomb
1942 AUG lead first daylight raid by an American squad-ron
on German- occupied Europe.
1942 OCT flew General Mark Clark to secret meeting with
French in North Africa.
