Steelworkers of America. Local 2627 ( Marion, Ohio) Records as
a g i f t of Local 2627, through the auspices of the l e g a l agent,
Ms Terry Reid, i n July 1980. Clara Ireland processed the
c o l l e c t i o n i n March 1 9 S l .

Organizational sketch: United Steelworkers o f America, Local
2627 is a one shop l o c a l presenting t h e non- supervisory personnel
a t the Marion Power Shovel Company, now a subsidiary of Pittsburgh
Coke and Chemical Company. Local 2627 received recognition as t h e
exclusive bargaining agent for a l l non- confidential and non-supervisory
o f f i c e employees a t the p r i n c i p a l Marion o f f i c e on
February 2, 1944. Until 1955, l o c a l 2627 negotiated contract
agreements a i r i n g even numbered years. In 1955, however, a one
year c o n t r a c t was negotiated with an agreement supplemented in
1956 under t h e provision t h a t a new c o n t r a c t be negotiated in
1958. During 1956, l o c a l 2627 a l s o negotiated f o r its f i r s t
pension plan t o become e f f e c t i v e i n 1957. Only amendments t o
t h i s plan a r e renegotiated.
