HISTORICAL SKETCH OF THE COLLECTION
Charles Pratt was a staff member at the Ohio Historical Society from 1952 to 1980. He
held positions in the business office and the Site Operations division. When he retired
he held the position of Associate Director. The study of covered bridges was of personal
interest to Mr. Pratt. Occasionally he used the slides in public presentations about
covered bridges.
SCOPE AND CONTENTS OF THE COLLECTION
The collection consists of 636, 35 mm, color slides documenting covered bridges in
forty- six Ohio counties. The collection also includes slides of covered bridges in
Pennsylvania, Vermont, West Virginia, Wisconsin and New Brunswick, Canada.
The majority of the slides were taken by Charles Pratt. The slides of Ohio covered
bridges are arranged in alphabetical order by county name. The slides from other states
and Canada are located in Box 2, Folders 19 – 23. The slides taken in New Brunswick,
Canada are views of the longest covered bridge. Slides of unidentified covered bridges
are located in Box 2, Folder 24.
ORGANIZATION OF THE COLLECTION
The slides of Ohio bridges are arranged alphabetically by county name followed by
slides from other states, from Canada and unidentified bridges.
