Collection Synopsis
Provenance: The Ohio Historical Society acquired the Asa M. Beaver
Papers as a gift of the University of Oregon in June 1975. Sherrill
Dryden- Baird processed the collection in June 1980.
Property rights: The Ohio Historical Society owns the property
rights to this collection.
Copyrights: Copyrights have - not been dedicated to the public.
Consideration of the requirements of copyright is the responsi-bility
of the author and publisher.
Access: This collection is open under the rules and regulations
of the Ohio Historical Society.
Citation: Researchers are requested to cite collection name,
collection number, and the Ohio Historical Society in all footnote
and bibliographic references.
Transfer: Several programs and advertisements were transferred to
the Audiovisual Department in June 1980.

Biographical sketch: Asa M. Beaver was born circa 1857 and resided
for at least seventeen years ( 1890- 1907) near Pataskala, Licking
County, Ohio, where he engaged in farming. The Beaver family moved
to Ashland, Oregon, in October 1907.
Asa M. Beaver was married to Eliza Myrtie Beaver. After her death
in 1898(?), he married Nettie C. Asa Beaver's children included
sons Meredith and Aldred, and daughters Minnie, Nellie, and Mary.

Scope and content: The Asa M. Beaver Papers date from 1890 to
1907 and occupy one- half cubic foot. The papers include farmer's
record books and miscellaneous loose material, each arranged
chronologically.
The six record books provide insight into the daily life of an
Ohio farmer around the turn of the twentieth century. The volumes
contain daily records, written in diary form, which detail farming
and personal activities and frequently note local weather condi-tions.
The 1896 daily records discuss various aspects of Beaver's
milk business. The 1905 to 1907 daily records include a brief
description of a July 1905 trip to the western states and details
of the family's preparations to move to Oregon ( September- October
1907). Farm and household income and expenses are in. cluded ihnv
